Episode III Modern cars are built to maintain strict noise and emission regulations. This negatively affects the exhaust flow on a state of the art turbo car like the Type R. In this episode we are releasing some of the backpressure thiefs in the exhaust system which are the OEM downpipe + Frontpipe. In a turbo powerplant you aim to have as little as possible backpressure after the turbo to allow for fast spool up and reduce potential heat build up due to flow restrictions on the exhaust side. This will help us out in daily driving and on the track. It is important to mention that performance wise it is better to start with performing uppgrade than the rest of the exhaust (catback). This is simply because the exhaust restrictions in the FK8 sits more in the large cat (in the Downpipe) and frontpipe than in the rest of the exhaust. Once again PRL show great craftmanship and the parts fit spot on. Be aware of the bolts holding the downpipe to the turbo, soak them with a loosener fluid for 30min before attempting to loosen them. We noticed a darker tone in the exhaust and and earlier spool compared to the OEM FP + DP. Last but not least the PTP turbo hat also was easy to install and reduced the temperature much compared to using the OEM heatshield.
