    The Renault Sport Spider was developed by Nogaro Technologies under the supervision of Claude Fior. Claude Fior is known from e.g his participation in the development of Renault Formula race cars.
    The technical platform comes from Renault Mégane 2.0 16V. The frame is developed completely in aluminium by Fior.
    In the beginning of 1995, Renault presented the car in the Genf car exhibition. The production started in December 1995 at the Alpine plant in Diepe.
    The wind deflector used on the versions without windscreen was patented by Claude Fior.

    In 1996 a second version with a traditional windshield and an airbag was introduced.

    The Spider was from the beginning only produced in 3 colours schemes,Yellow (535), Blue (250) and Red (273) all with grey in the areas following the drive train seen from the side. In 1997 another colour was added, Titan Grey (647).

    524 in 1996

    61 in 1999

    Of the special Trophy version about 90 where produced.
    About 350 cars where produced without windshield (only deflector).
    A total number of 1640 is supposed to have been produced according to Renault, but nobody seems to exactly know, the numers varies from 1493 to 1920.

    The Aluminum-Chassis was supplied by Hydro-Aluminium in Norway. The Spider was assemled by hand in the Alpine plant in Dieppe, it took about 90 hours to assemble a Spider.
