Hi everybody,

I want to buy a used car and I am not sure what to chose. Looking at something for 130-200k SEK, year 2015 and up, bigger family car - kombi (Skoda Octavia, Toyota Avensis, Mazda 6, Ford Mondeo, etc.). Toyota's and Mazda's (some at least) usually have that 10 year warranty on them, but they are also a bit more expensive to buy comparing to some Octavia's and Mondeo's for example.

What I am not sure about is what is the difference between maskinskada and Toyota's extended warranty (that 10 year Toyota Quality Guarantee). Do they cover the same things or is manufacturer warranty much better (both for what they cover and also how easy it is get insurance to fix things).

Regards,
Igor

"Maskinskada" is usually something insurance companies cover up if you have full insurance depending on the cars milage. I don't know if some manufacturers offers it since I'm only familiar with Ford.

Warranty on Fords is 2 years/unlimited mileage then followed up by a 3 year limited extended warranty up to 150.000 km depending on model (A very tiny amount is sold without the extended warranty because cheaper)
However the Mondeo is a reliable car so you'd probably only need to change brakes and battery ; )

Of what I've heard, Toyotas Quality warranty only covers if the car been serviced through authorised Toyota dealers only. Double check service history.

100% correct, AND the car also have to be sold and resold by a Toyota Dealer.
Never outside Toyota.
Otherwise it disapears.

You can therefore NOT buy at Toyota from a private person and still have the 10year/ 200.000 km quality warranty.

A Toyota dealer always meantion the warranty, if it exists.

The warranty is better than the insurance.
It is free if they fix something.
Insurance has a fee to pay.

Insurance is for shorter time and km.
Also differs between insurancecompanies.

The Toyota quality warranty is known for beeing very generous actually.
Basicly everything, exept for parts that naturally wear out. Like brakepads/disks, suspensionparts, etc.

Toyota is also quite inexpensive to service at Toyota.  Differs between models, offcorse.

I do not think that ex, a brakejob or a bodyrepair outside Toyota affects the warrranty.
Just service.  But look it up.

Tack så mycket.

Based on your answers, and a bit more thinking it seems that I will go with Avensis at the end. Also, really helpful to know that I have to watch for Toyota dealers only in order to have the warranty. And servicing with official Toyota shop should not be a problem, because at the end it gives you a piece of mind.

And I will make sure to ask the dealer/Toyota about bodywork, etc. type of repairs in regard to warranty.

Igor

We have a Toyota Prius with extended warranty. Service is done at a Toyota-center every year. That is a demand if we want to keep warranty until the car is 10 yrs old.

Tänk på 80-talet. Då körde hantverkarna Cheva Startcraft med V8-diesel. Det var tider det!
