Planning to turn my ocean green Volvo 142 into a clean rust free 16v B230 mildly tuned car that?ll keep up with traffic and do well on long adventures to discover surf around the Baltic in Sweden in style. Any tips are welcome in... Visa mer
Bought a Volvo 142 as form of transportation to get me from Stockholm to Nynashamn to go surfing. Turns out there’s a lot more surf around Sweden than Torö, so I’ll need smooth fast transportation to get there.
So I’m starting a project to turn my ocean green 142 into a 16v b230 Carburetored surfing finding work horse. Any tips on the project are welcomed . Yes i can understand Swedish, so if you’ve got a similar project I’d love to hear about it.
This looks like a really nice project! Will be a fun one to follow.
That three spoke R-sport steeringwheel you have got there is very sought after model, especially with that R-sport horn button. Worth arond 2500-4000 sek, depending on buyer and condition.

What transmission are you planning to use?
Hey Nick,
A few people have actually mentioned that the steering wheel is quite sought after. Can you believe it actually came with the car.
The plan is to use a ZF transmission, though I’m always open for suggestions.
What are the plans except for B234? Gearbox, rear axle, supension and brakes modifications? Original looks but potent old car?
My first car was a 1971 model 142 (with 1972 gearshifter mod), so I have a thing for them...
First I’m doing some necessary rust repair to time proof it since I plan to drive it often. But given the new engine I’ll need to upgrade the rear axel and gear box. As for the suspension its already sitting on Bilstein sports, but I may opt for a thicker sway bar and install a rear one.
You said it! I want to keep it looking as original as possible so I don’t alienate to many enthusiast but under the hood it’ll be a bit more modern ; )
I haven’t decided on a rear axel yet, but for a gear box I was think a ZF 5 speed or a Volvo M47 5 speed.

Any suggestion on a rear axel?
The easy choice is the 1031 axle from a 240. Solid enough for most engines. I use it in my 20M with Lexus V8, with a new Quaife diff.
Here’s a little update on my progress on the 16v build. So far I’ve got all the parts ready to be installed expect for a break booster alternative which I’m open for suggestion for. I’m also still looking for a transmission and I’m thinking about going with a rebuilt M47. But for a little eye candy here’s a few pictures of the B230F and top I’ll be using which was machined and renovated by the one and only Krilles Motor.
